Guatemala
Guatemala was my stop-everything-because-I-have-to-think-about-everything haven. I felt like I was reaching the proverbial existential crisis, so I ejected myself from all that is known and spent a month there with old and new friends.
I volunteered at Long Way Home and built sustainable homes out of overflowing trash — a pervasive problem in the country and a leading cause of water-borne illnesses for the population. I learnt how to hammer properly, make cob with my feet, build a structurally sound wall, and with some very broken Spanish, master orders of licuado with un poquito de azucar around town.
